bomi (formerly CMPlayer) has several things going for it: it has a user friendly interface that supports skins; it is incredibly easy to use; it automatically generates playlists; it can handle multiple video and audio formats; it can handle URLs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs; it supports subtitles; it is based on mpv for Linux; it is free and open source. All in all, it can prove to be a very useful media player.

Bomi is available for Windows and Linux. The Windows version is available as an installer (download and run the installer and a setup wizard will help you install bomi on a Windows PC) and as a portable version (a 7z archive that contains everything you need to run bomi on a Windows PC; there’s a 7z archive for 32-bit PCs and another for 64-bit PCs).

bomi’s interface, as mentioned above, provides support for skins. Here’s how to get to the skins: right click the interface -> Tools -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Theme -> you’ll see a dropdown menu that lists multiple skins. You’ll also see a few other interface customization options: change the fonts, select what controls are displayed, change the background, change the window style.

From a functionality point of view, you can expect to get the following from bomi: play video and audio files (lots of formats are supported); access several settings that govern how audio and video playback works; open URLs; play DVDs and Blu-ray discs; subtitles are supported and there’s a tool that helps you find subtitles; playlists are generated automatically; view your playback history; hardware acceleration; lots of preferences to play with; user friendly interface.

bomi is free and open source software. Regular users can get this media player and use it for free for as long as they want. Programmers and developers can get the source code and play with it.

The bomi media player is incredibly easy to use. Get it and it will play your videos, your music, your DVDs, and more.
